How does AVID work?
The goal of AVID is to educate the “whole student.” This is achieved by unifying six important elements. 1. Students – AVID students are students in the academic middle capable of completing a college prep curricular path. AVID students enroll in rigorous academic classes and in the AVID elective class where they receive academic support. 2. Curriculum- the AVID curriculum is based on rigorous standards. It is developed by middle and high school teachers in collaboration with college professors. 3. Tutors- Tutors are available in the AVID elective class where they facilitate students study groups. Tutors have college experience or degrees and serve as role models. 4. Faculty- The school AVID teacher/coordinator advocates for AVID students and works with teachers in all subjects sharing AVID strategies. 5. Parents- Parents encourage their child to achieve academically, attend AVID parent meetings and maintain regular contact with the AVID teacher. 6. Community- Support for the AVID prog
