Does music affect animals?

I did my dissertation on the effects of music on chimpanzees. It was an observational study and I played classical music into the habitats of captive chimpanzees at varying intervals and observed behaviours for a month. The study demonstrated a decrease in aggressive behaviours while the music was on, and an increase in rest/sleep periouds. Whether this was a direct result of the music, or of the influence the music had in minimalising the impact of the noise from the zoo visitors was unclear however. Personally though I think that they did certainly enjoy having the music on and they seemed very responsive to it.

Animals can like music as well. At a zoo I worked at, a Molluccan cockatoo rocked out to “save a horse, ride a cowboy” it was her favorite song. She liked other country as well, but not as much as that one. She never even raised her crest to any other type of music.

Yes Rock music makes termites chew wood faster. Music at high volume (loud music) attracts bees and makes them angry. Basicly, music that has a strong drum beat in it, makes most, if not all, animals agitated and angry.
