Where did the Bible come from?
Preston of Norfolk, VA Dear Preston, There are two important answers to this question. The first, and most important, is that the Bible comes from God. Paul wrote: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” (2 Timothy 3:16). The word “Scripture” means writing. But this was not just any writing; Paul was talking about the Word of God. Some people may think that that Scripture contains the words of God, and everything else was made up by men. But Paul said that all Scripture was inspired or “breathed out” by God. Yes, the Bible had human writers, but they “spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21). Second, the Bibles we read today come from translations of the ancient texts. “To translate” means to put in the words of another language. Most of the Old Testament was written in the Hebrew language, but it was translated into Greek by the time of Jesus’ birth. Most of the New Testament was written in Greek.
