Does not the Eagle represent America?

The Eagle was also the symbol of Imperial Rome, Germany, Poland, Albania, and Russia (to name a few). Interestingly, the eagle is also on the coat of arms of Egypt as well as a double-headed eagle that was used by the Turks.

In my many travels I have found that the mighty Eagle represents a plethora of things…..Though many whom have responded are on the defensive, the answer to thine question would be affirmative. Also, in my book of symbols… The Eagle is an unambiguous and universal symbol of power, speed, and perception.Attribute of the greatest gods, adopted much later as the symbol of the imperial power. Also appears in carvings in Christian churches, usually on fonts, pulpits and lecterns, as in one of the attributes of St. John.

On July 4,1776, the Continental Congress appointed a committee to bring a device for a seal of the US of A. After many delays, a verbal descriptiion of a design was finally approved by Congress on June 20, 1782. The seal shows an American bald eagle with a ribbon in its mouth bearing the device E plurbus unum (One out of many). In its talons are the arrows of war and an olive branch of peace. Although this description was adopted in 1782, the first drawing was not made until four years later, and no die has ever been cut.
