What is an Impacted Anal Sac?
All dogs have two anal sacs that are most normally emptied when they urinate or defecate. Sometimes this happens when the dog is frightened and made nervous, resulting in a bad odor. When these sacs fail to empty properly or become infected, this is referred to as impacted anal sacs. This problem appears to be common in small dogs. Your vet can show you how to “Express” your Chihuahuas to empty these sacs.
