What is a rotary engine (RX8)?
I’ve never heard that about having to let an RX8 idle prior to driving or turning the car off. Where did you hear it? The chief benefit of a rotary engine is that it has no reciprocating mass. In plain English, this means the internal parts are all spinning in one direction, and unlike pistons in a conventional motor, they’re not constantly changing direction. This reduces wear and tear, and is theoretically more efficient. Also, you can rev them pretty high without fear of hurting the motor. The downside is that, historically speaking, rotaries have tended to go through a lot of oil, presumably because the internal cavities in a rotary engine can’t be completely isolated from the rest of the motor. Also, rotary cars have never been known to get truly excellent fuel economy.
