How to Get Microarray Data Published?
By Thomas J. Mariani As part of the genomic revolution in biology, microarray technology has promised to transform the investigation of gene expression. Advocates of this technology (myself included) have embraced the power of measuring thousands of genes in parallel. Many initially agreed, and incorporated expression microarray experiments into their research. Although an abundance of expression microarray data has been generated by pulmonary researchers, it appears that only a small proportion has been published. Expression microarray data are often used for hypothesis generation, possibly making the publication of the datasets not an absolute requirement for the investigator(s) producing the data. However, the lack of publication of a large amount of this data is detrimental to the application of this technology and to the field(s) of pulmonary biology for three reasons: (1) For the technology to reach its full potential, it needs to be incorporated into mainstream research; (2) giv
