What is PFI funding?
PFI funding has been set up so that a public utility, such as a waste treatment facility, can be built and paid for by private companies, who then charge back the running costs to the local authority. Therefore, local authorities can obtain assets in a value for money way, in partnership with the private sector. PFI funding encourages greater partnership working and ensures local authority waste projects are in keeping with the principles of the waste strategy.
