How is the SolarTile connected to the National Grid?
Solar panel systems can be either stand-alone or grid-connected. Legislation and the requirements of the Regional Electricity Company govern grid-connected systems. The DC electricity produced by the SolarTile is converted by the inverter to AC, and then connected to the mains via a fuse box, so that any spare electricity automatically flows out to the grid. It is possible to have an extra electricity meter fitted to measure how much is exported. Of course, if you require more electricity then your solar panels are currently providing, this is still automatically drawn from the grid. Income generated from selling electricity back to the Grid can be used to reduce the pay-back period. Details of current arrangements can be obtained from your Regional Electricity Company.
