Why do people commit acts of terrorism?
This is a very interesting question.. because when we think of acts of terrorism today, we immediately think of 9/11, Mumbai and other recent large scale attacks. In essence though the definition of terrorism is much broader and occurs daily albeit on a much smaller scale in school yards and on our roads. The reasons behind these attacks may vary, some seek revenge, others see it as the only way their voice can be heard – a last ditch effort for survival, and some just want to get their way and are not able to conceive more reasonable ways to achieve their goal. In every case though, we need to be able to see terrorism for what it is and not “label” terrorists – but rather “terrorist acts”. There is a saying that “one man’s terrorist is anothers freedom fighter” and this is very true. We seem able to turn a blind eye to terrorist acts that we commit yet demonise and vilify groups that have terrorist elements. I know this does not completely answer what is a very psychological and philo
