What is a cutback?

0

Page one and the last page of a book always has a cutback. If a tip-in is being inserted between signatures, every sixteen pages, a cutback is needed on the last page of the tip-in. On pages that must have a cutback, elements need to be moved further away from the gutter. Instead of the gutter falling at zero picas on these pages, it is cutback to 1 ½ picas. Backgrounds have to be at least 1 ½ picas away from the gutter. Text areas must be at least 2 ½ picas away. Adjust all elements as necessary.
