How are MIDI files created?
They are created by sequencing software, such as Cakewalk Pro Audio, or Yamaha XG Works I , however, prefer MIDISoft Pro . The term sequencing refers to the recording of the commands that make the file. Most people simply have sequencing software, a keyboard, and maybe a drum machine to record each track of the MIDI at a time. Others have programs that can be fed scores and the program writes the MIDI. If you can read and write music, then you can actually write your own MIDI very simply. I do not use a keyboard or other hardware. I WRITE MY OWN MIDIs. It takes me between 4 to 12 hours for each MIDI depending on number of musical instruments used.
