What is the kerf?
Kerf is the term used for the width of the actual cut. Kerf is measured at the widest point of the cut & is generally wider than the steel body of the blade itself. This difference in widths enables the blade to move freely through the material being cut. When used in the mining industry the term ‘kerf’ refers to a deep narrow cut a few centimetres high, used to undermine a portion of a coal or mineral seam. Just some trivia!
