Who Listens to Indie Music?
A surprising amount of people listen to indie rock religiously. This is an interesting fact, given that every single indie song released in the United States has featured the same chord progression, and have all stolen their lyrics from old Bob Dylan songs. In fact, in 1984 Bob Dylan successfully sued The Beegees, a famous indie rock band, for copyright infringement. This gave Sir Dylan a much larger hipster fan-base. Most, if not all, of the who listen to indie rock are hipsters. Hipsters, however, is a fallacious term, since they aren’t really following the most popular trends at all. A more appropriate, yet less accepted, term for this type of person is elitist. These are the type of people who steal those ‘donate to cancer victim’ jars from convenience stores to spend on their $25 cups of coffee, despite the fact that they make $500,000 a year for stress-free consultant jobs.
