ADR stands for Alternative Dispute Resolution. Trial is an adversarial approach to resolution. ADR is an approach to be a kinder, gentler more collaborative approach to resolution. Mediation is one type of alternative dispute resolution. Mediation is when the parties (generally no attorneys present) meet with a neutral party, the mediator, to discuss the issues and to hopefully reach a resolution. The mediator will tell the parties what is reasonable and will again try to broker an agreement.
