What is Pony Club Anyway?
Pony Club is an equestrian organization for kids and young adults through the age of 25. It includes several riding disciplines: Eventing, Dressage, Vaulting, Mounted Games, Tetrathlon, Show Jumping and Quiz (similar to Quiz Bowl). One thing that makes Pony Club different from other horse related activities is the addition of Horse Management skills (taking care of your horse) and team work. USPC has a tiered “rating” system, where members can move up levels (similar to scouting). The different rating levels are described in the Standards of Proficiency. Candidates are evaluated not only on their riding abilities, but also on their knowledge and practical Horse Management skills. There is no pressure to “rate” until a member feels ready, but ratings can be fun and as members move up they are eligible to participate in additional opportunities. Woodbine Pony Club!
