Is conservation only water answer?
The report went on to explain that we, at present, would be under a voluntary conservation policy. I agree with everyone that conserving our most precious resource and following the guidelines for saving water is of the utmost importance. However, I find it hard to understand the lack of ideas and new innovative solutions to this problem of water shortage. It seems that the Texas Panhandle has had a long history of not knowing how to manage and maintain our area lakes. Having grown up in Canyon, I remember Buffalo Lake and the fun people had with fishing, boating, skiing and swimming. There were even trees for shade along its banks. Then something went wrong with the water. I’m not sure if irrigation or run-off from the cattle yards poisoned the water but it was no more. Numerous attempts to revive Buffalo Lake over several years failed. Then, almost 30 years ago, we had beautiful lake near what used to be Western Plaza shopping mall.
