How to open an ms-dos file?

There is no difference between Windows and MS-DOS file formats. Both of them are identified by what comes after the dot in the file name. It’s just with Windows, there are more of them, so it’s more likely that you just haven’t got the software to open it. Without knowing what the file type is exactly, I can’t be very specific, but for pictures IrfanView (1) opens most of the formats I’ve never heard of. For videos, you might get a codec pack, there are a few of them kicking around but the one I use is called the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (2). For IrfanView there’s also a bunch of plugins – install IrfanView, then install the plugin pack (3). For the codec pack, if you choose the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack, the installer can be a little over-facing – just select “Lots of stuff” when you install, or run through the list and make sure everything is ticked, then at the end select Media Player Classic.

*Sadly, we had to bring back ads too. Hopefully more targeted.
