Who developed the big bang theory?

0

Believe it or not: A Belgian priest. You see, the idea of the big bang is the idea of a creation. It is said that when Hubble’s observation of the red-shift – the confirmation that all galaxies move away from each other, the Pope was pleased. Then scientists said that if there was a big bang, we should still see the background radiations from it. Lo and behold, later on the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) was discovered. There is no doubt that there is an expansion in the universe. Logically, it should start with a big singularity: a moment when everything was together: Time, space, energy and matter. But still, the last word isn’t said yet. Maybe it is only an optical illusion. Who knows? (EDITED) Okay, now by reading the other answers, I know it’s Lemaitre. Forgot it. A shame, really, I was born and grew up in Brussels, Belgium!
