How does the Index code work?
The index code is a 6-digit shortcut to the 36-digit FOAPAL. Index codes are chart specific and optional for units. Index codes can be established for units prior to Banner implementation. Index codes may be established for frequently used C-FOAPAL combinations. The Grants module team intends to provide index codes for all sponsored projects at the time of creation of the project in Banner. Index codes will normally only cover one or more of the Fund, Org, and Program segments of the C-FOAPAL. For this reason, if your feeder system receives an index code to charge from a department, you must expand it to the full C-FOAPAL value that it represents before submitting the transaction.
