Are Border Collies Good Family Pets?
I have two border collies and they are the most affectionate loving dogs you could meet, they are more family members than pets. Bitches tend to me more affectionate but more demanding than dogs (I have two bitches but have had male border collie before). Mine have never even growled at another person and if trained properly will be very obedient and understand their place in the pack. They make the worst guard dogs as they just want to get fusses from everyone they meet and are only territorial at home with other dogs (although even this is just a bit of barking if a dog walks past). It is fine to train them yourself but I would recommend taking them to a basic training class as its good for them to socialise with other dogs and they will love the time you spend together doing this. Be warned though, you will never tire a border collie out. They can exercise for hours and still be full of beans.
