Are torrent websites safe?

If for a moment can we take the view that not ALL Bit Torrent Protocol files are illegal, since you can legitimately and legally use this type of service to distribute/receive non-copyrighted works or even your own personal creations… Only download files from people you trust or that have been recommended as scanned and virus free by many people. Provided that the file you wish to download was a legal clean virus free copy when the Bit torrent “map” was uploaded to the site, it can not pick up a virus along the way as any information (bits/packets) that did not fit the map of the original file would be rejected by your PC. You are more likely to catch a virus using straight file sharing P2P like Limewire than you are by using the Bit Torrent Protocol, as Virus/Trojans on the hosts PC can hitch a ride on the file to your PC. http://en.wikipedia.

Most are safe. I would recommend using thepiratebay.org as it is the most popular and most safe. But with torrents comes risks, so I recommend getting an anti-virus like the free edition of Avast!

What is your question?

*Sadly, we had to bring back ads too. Hopefully more targeted.
