Why is context not relevant in XBRL GL?
As per the XBRL 2.1 Specification each XBRL item must be linked to a context element that contains information about the entity being described, the reporting period and the reporting scenario, all of which are necessary for understanding a business fact captured as an XBRL item. However, in XBRL GL most of the contextual information that is associated with an XBRL item is contained in other items. Due to the nature of the data and documents that are represented with XBRL GL it is not enough, for instance, to provide only one date or one period of time as context. The date in which an entry or a document was created, or entered in a system, or posted, its accounting relevance date, its maturity date etc. can all be relevant. To provide a single date in the context would involve selecting one of these dates as “THE” date. This could lead to endless debate as to which is the most important of these dates since “importance” will vary depending on the purpose for which the data is being us
