How does Disk Defragmenter work?
Disk Defragmenter reorganizes the clusters that Windows 95 has saved in different areas of your hard drive by placing them in one contiguous location. The utility also consolidates the free space on your drive in one block. Windows 95 then writes all new files in contiguous free clusters until your drive starts running out of room. You can defragment your local hard drives, compressed drives, and floppy drives. However, you can’t defragment network drives, CD-ROM drives, locked disks, and other removable or read-only media.
