Will the Dodgers miss J.D. Drew?
Absolutely. In fact, they will miss both Drew and Kenny Lofton. Truth be told, this offense will be worse than last year – and it could be much worse. Let’s start at the top. Rafael Furcal had a career year last year, hitting more homers, batting for a higher average, with more hits and more walks than any other season in his career. I’d love to think he’s going to break out and do even better, but I wouldn’t bet on it. We’ll say he’ll be pretty much the same guy but he might slip by five runs. Then, he might bat second instead of leadoff so that Juan Pierre can bat first. I would want to know why the Dodgers signed Pierre and not Kenny Lofton. Kenny Lofton had a better batting average, a better on base percentage, and probably still covers more ground in center than Pierre. I mean – if Lofton batted as often as Pierre, Lofton would have more hits (210 to 204), more total bases (what Pierre gets in doubles, Lofton makes up in triples and homers), far more walks (67 to 32), 10 fewer sto
