When are they going to fix Rheem Blvd.?
Rheem Blvd., between Moraga Road and St. Mary’s Road is an old road built by the County dating back to the early part of the 20th century. The road was not built to today’s standards and has been sliding into the canyon below for many years. Minor maintenance is undertaken each year to attempt to fill the cracks opened by the shifting road, and smooth the surface as much as possible. In the last ten years the Town has had 2 engineering reports developed to determine the appropriate method to stabilize the surface. A 1990 report indicated that the cost was more than one million dollars and would involve severe cut and fill of the adjacent slopes and valley. A 1998 study showed that, using different methods than cut & fill, the cost of stabilization should run between $900,000 and $1,000,000. The cost of full stabilization is outside the budgetary capabilities of the Town, which generates and spends about $1,000,000 every two years to keep the more than 50 miles of streets in good condit
