The facilitator may be the group leader or convener or another member of the group. The facilitator ensures that discussions move smoothly, that the discussions are not dominated by one or two persons, and that attendees are able to freely contribute their opinions. The Foreign Policy Association makes available a Program Handbook which includes “Tips for Facilitators”. It is not necessary to have prior training. Facilitation may also be done by the speaker.
