Is there ahi in the rice?
The name “ahi rice” on the Wahoo’s menu is actually a misnomer. There is no ahi in the Wahoo’s rice. Initially, Wahoo’s rice was topped with Wahoo’s salsa that contained aji [pronounced “ahi”] chili pepper. We changed the spelling to “ahi” to help with pronunciation. However, the Wahoo’s salsa no longer contains ahi [aji] chili pepper. Still, the name “ahi rice” stuck among both the Wahoo’s crew and customers alike-so the name “ahi rice” remains!
