How do I care for a kentia palm?

SoilPlant the kentia palm in a container with drain holes in the bottom. Use a nutrient-rich potting soil that drains quickly, African violet soil mix, for example, or a mixture consisting of 1/4 basic potting soil, 1/4 course sand or perlite and 1/2 peat moss or humus.Light, Water and FertilizerPlace the plant where it will receive bright indirect sunlight. Water the kentia palm with room-temperature water when the top 1 inch of soil gets dry. Do not overwater it and be sure to empty the catch saucer after watering. Mist the plant generously once or twice each week to provide extra humidity and help keep the leaves clean. Give the kentia palm a basic water-soluble houseplant fertilizer once a month throughout the spring and summer or add slow-release fertilizer to the potting soil in early spring. Follow the fertilizer manufacturer’s recommendations for application rates.
