What is the TREAD Act?
Congress passed the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountabil–ity and Documentation (TREAD) Act in 2000. The TREAD Act, among other matters, requires new passenger cars, light trucks and buses to be equipped with a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), and requires notification of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in all accidents involving alleged tire defects.
