An AGDL transmission is quite fast, but an AGDL dialogue (transmission to acknowledgement received) can take some time. During the PETAL [Preliminary EUROCONTROL Tests Air/ground data Link] trials an AGDL dialogue took, on average, some 47 seconds to complete. However, when an air traffic controller uses CPDLC to communicate with an aircraft they are allowing 2 minutes for an operational response to be received.
