How to handle a Temper Tantrum
Try to remain calm. Shaking, spanking, or screaming at a child might only make the tantrum worse. In fact, shaking a child is VERY harmful, spanking can build resentment, and screaming at a child squashes their sense of self. Try to set a positive example for the child by remaining in control of yourself and your emotions. Take at least thirty seconds to decide how you will handle the tantrum. The following are four possible ways to deal with a tantrum: 1. Try to get the child’s attention focused elsewhere. If the child screams when you take him away from something dangerous, try to provide the child with a different task or toy to distract him from the past one. 2. Remove the child from the situation and take him to a private, quiet place to calm down. Once the child has settled down you can then talk about the problem. 3. Older children will sometimes throw tantrums to get attention. Try ignoring the tantrum and going about your business as usual. 4. Calmly holding an “out of control
