What are Pygmy Goats?
Pygmy goats originate in Africa, predominantly from Nigeria and Cameroon where they are kept for milk and meat. They were originally imported into the UK at the end of the 19th century as a zoo animal. Now they are usually kept as pets although some people milk them for their own consumption. The average pygmy nanny or wether (castrated male) stands between 16″ and 23″ tall (40-57cm) and weighs between 40 and 70lbs (18-30kg). This makes them small and easily handled.
