What is a MAILER-DAEMON?
Daemon is a word from latin meaning ‘spirit’. In computer use, a daemon is like a cyber critter that scurries all around the operating system doing various routine tasks automatically. The mailer-daemon handles routine tasks associated with mailing, by invoking different programs or procedures for different problems. You may see a reference to mailer-daemon if mail is bounced (returned to sender, probably because of a bad address).
