How do I paint a dining room chair rail?
Prepare the Chair Rail for PaintingFill all nail holes, and make any surface repairs needed to the chair rail and sand them smooth. De-gloss any shiny surfaces by sanding lightly with fine-grit sandpaper or with a chemical deglosser. Wash thoroughly. Caulk any gaps between the chair rail and walls. Allow to dry.Mask off the Neighboring WallsApply painter’s tape to the walls on either side of the chair rail using a flexible drywall knife to burnish it to the surface so paint will not seep underneath.Prime and PaintPaint the chair rails before the walls.
