What is an M1A Match?
Inaugurated in 2007 for the National Matches at Camp Perry, the NRA/Springfield M1A Match was NRAs first attempt to come up with a High Power Rifle Games match to capture the popularity of the CMP Games matches (The Garand, Springfield and Carbine Matches) combined with Springfield Armorys desire to see its M1A version of the M14 Rifle returned to a major competitive role. This move was not without controversy it irked those who had regularly competed in the Rumbold Team Match which was bumped from its traditional Sunday firing, and it really bothered certain traditionalists among the Conventional High Power crowd who believe that no match format is worthy unless its has been fired without change for at least 125 years. Despite the controversies, the M1A Match employs a new format which is quite challenging yet also quicker to complete than traditional NRA High Power matches. What are the Unique Features of an M1A Match? The M1A Match is fired from a single distance on a single target.
