How does HL7 relate to ONCHIT?
The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONCHIT) will facilitate the effective use of information technology to improve the quality, efficiency, and safety of health care for all Americans. ONC will collaborate with the public, private, and non-profit sectors to meet the President’s goal of the widespread adoption of interoperable electronic health records (EHRs) within ten years. HL7’s Standards will assist in achieving interoperability. In January 2005, HL7 participated in a Collaborative ONCHIT RFI Response. HL7 also sumbmitted a Separate Response and Cover Letter.
