How does mining work?
Asteroids are made form myriad types of material. Materials such as iron, gold, uranium, etc., or composite compounds. Different scanners can be bought for particular resources, which can be used to identify and locate them. If you do not have a scanner, you can always simply start harvesting unknown material and use your ship to determine its properties – or in some cases, simply look at textures and patterns e.g. yellowish for gold or sulfur. Mining is not a quick process and has an impact on your carrier vessel’s weight, so your ship will move slower, consume more energy, etc. The Mining process is dissimilar to that of digging. Mining will result in ore being collected, whereas digging will result in the substance being lost. For example, when digging through an asteroid, if you happen to dig right through a giant gold vein, that material is lost and destroyed. Caution and care is the key when hunting for ore within an asteroid. Mining is performed by inserting a siphoning tool int
