Stewards or Spenders?
Every church leader must answer this question when leading a budgeting process. People learn to approach church finances as spenders. The Bible says Christians are stewards. Church leaders have two choices–one leads to dread and dearth, and another produces freedom, joy and ministry accomplishment. Kennon L. Callahan answers it in Effective Church Finances [1], “God calls us to be stewards not spenders.” Callahan’s insights parallel the same approach for effective capital campaigns and used by CCS.
