What is Common Cold & Flu?
Common cold, true to its name continues to be one of the most common afflictions. According to Ayurveda, common cold and flu indicate the first stage in the breakdown of our bodily defenses. Common cold and the flu (influenza) are alike in many ways. Both cold and flu can sometimes lead to more serious problems like pneumonia. Cold symptoms are usually a stuffy nose, sore throat, and sneezing. They last a couple of days to a week. Flu symptoms are usually tiredness, fever, headache, and muscle aches and pains. Coughing can be a sign of either a cold or the flu. Common cold is a contagious illness that can be caused by a number of different types of viruses. Because of the great number of viruses that can cause a cold and because cold viruses evolve, the body never builds up resistance against all of them. For this reason, colds are a frequent and recurring problem. In fact, on average, preschool children have 9 colds a year, those in kindergarten, 12 colds a year; and adolescents and a
