What causes blue veins?
The normal function of leg veins is usually to carry blood time for the guts. During walking activity, the calf muscle provides for a pump, compressing the shin bone veins and forcing blood back on the heart.To prevent blood from pointed in the wrong direction, veins have one-way valves valves that prevent blood from flowing backwards along the leg. In the event the valves are faulty (a condition generally known as valvular incompetence), blood flows back in superficial veins and on the leg. This technique is called reflux. Reflux brings about veins enlarging and becoming varicose. Once veins become varicose, they lose remarkable ability to snap back to their correct shape, and become more plastic instead of elastic.
