How long has Reiki been around?
The actual origin of Reiki is unknown or lost in history with only traces of this therapy characteristics in ancient texts and scrolls with no reference to the term “Reiki”. There are many speculations about its roots (e.g., some claim it”s associated with Buddhism, but Reiki is non-religious-specific and there is no documented proof of it deriving from this religion), but they are just that…speculations. The man who rediscovered Reiki was Dr. Mikao Usui (also known as Usui-sensei to his students) in the early 1920s. As one story tells it, Usui-sensei went to Mt. Kurama and had a miraculous experience where he received the knowledge of this “Higher Power” energy and the information on how to apply it to himself and others.
