What are you ingesting? We eat unhealthy food consisting of processing chemicals that increase shelf life. We ingest smog and pollution through our respiratory system. We take in contaminants in our drinking water and our fresh fruits and vegetables are grown in soil that has been depleted of viable nutrients. We are living in the junk food, fast food and processed food age and our bodies are responding by producing some less than desirable conditions.

Constipation, excess weight gain, heartburn, and many more conditions have a direct correlation to our nutritional habits and dietary intake. Poor nutrition, if not addressed and corrected can lead to more dangerous chronic conditions such as heart disease, liver disease and even cancer, just to name a few.

Occasionally cleansing your colon makes good sense. Many health experts recommend making a practice of cleansing the colon several times a year. Colon cleansing clears out accumulated debris in the colon which makes absorption of nutrients much more efficient.

Do you need a colon cleanse?

There are many symptoms that may indicate that a colon cleanse would be beneficial. Here are a few:

    • Frequent and persistent headaches

    • Constipation

    • Lethargy

    • Skin problems

    • Excess gas, bloating or acidity

    • Bad breath

    Methods of colon cleansing

Many methods of colon cleansing are effective. Herbal cleanses are commercially available and seem to be a desirable choice for some people. As well as cleaning and scrubbing the colon, many herbs have the capability to draw out old fecal matter and toxic debris. There are herbs included in many colon cleanses that also kill and clear out parasites and control the overgrowth of yeast which is a major contributor to Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Crohn’s Disease.

In addition to commercial herbal formulations there are natural ways to clean the colon. Eating nothing but raw fruits and vegetables for one month will clean the colon but few people can stick to such a limited diet. One very simple way clean the colon is to use olive oil. Olive oil has been used since antiquity in medicinal capacities and has purportedly been effective in reducing the incidence of gall stones and in easing the symptoms of asthma. Olive oil works to lubricate the intestinal tract, flushing out harmful toxins and impacted fecal matter. To use olive oil as a cleansing agent, mix ¾ of a cup of grapefruit juice with ½ cup of olive oil; stir; drink right before going to bed.

As always, consult a physician prior to performing a colon cleanse.
