What is the purpose of the seminars?
Fellows attend regular seminars, which typically take place on Wednesday mornings and occasional weekday evenings. UCPIP Fellows share these seminars with public interest program fellows from Northwestern University and Princeton University. The seminars will increase your knowledge of public interest issues in Chicago, provide support from other fellows in similar jobs, and develop skills. The seminars feature different speakers every week, including leaders of organizations doing interesting work in Chicago, prominent civic leaders and intellectuals, and knowledgeable experts with skills to share. Past seminar speakers have included Alderman Toni Preckwinkle, John Horan (principle of North Lawndale College Prep), current Education Secretary Arne Duncan, and executive directors from many Chicago public interest organizations.
