What are the recyclables made into?
• Newspaper is shipped to paper pulping mills that turn the material into blank newsprint rolls for new newspapers. • Cardboard is shipped to cardboard pulping mills that turn this material into rolls of cardboard, which are then bought by companies who turn the roll of cardboard into new cardboard boxes. • Plastics are sent to a company that sorts the plastics by type, HDPE-N, HDPE-C and PET. The various types of plastics are then pelletized and sold to manufacturers who reuse them in new plastic products. PET pellets are used to make plastic beverage bottles. HDPE-N pellets are used to make milk jugs and HDPE-C pellets are used to make detergent bottles, carpets, fleece, and toys. • Aluminum is shipped to aluminum mills that turn them into sheet aluminum and used to make aluminum cans. • Steel cans are sold to companies that melt the cans and turn them into rolls of sheet steel for use in new cans, automobile parts and other metal products.
