There are very few contraindications to the use of VEDs as this is non-invasive treatment. However, if one is considering surgery, especially in a diabetic, a thorough medical evaluation is first undertaken to evaluate the general condition of the patient to tolerate the procedure. If cleared medically, the risk versus benefit ratio of the procedure (including the increased risk of infection in diabetics) is discussed with the surgeon.
