Can Romex be used in PVC outside?

The International Residential Building Code and the National Electric Code do not allow for Romex to be used anywhere except dry residential interiors. Moisture easily enters PVC conduit, so a protected, insulated wire is necessary.On the Other: Use Type UF or Type TW InsteadType UF cable has a protective coating and can be placed in the ground without conduit. Type TW cable has a moisture barrier sleeve, but it must be housed within exterior grade PVC, rigid steel or rigid aluminum conduit.Bottom LineAlthough Romex cannot be used in PVC conduit outdoors., there are other wiring possibilities.
