Some of the natural color gemstones are treated or enhanced to increase the color, reduce imperfections and to improve the durability of the stone. Many corundums are been heated to enhance the color. This treatment is generally accepted in the trade. Some of the tourmalines and blue zircons have also been heated and the resulting color is permanent.
