What is Self Injury?
It may make a bit more sense to understand self injury if it is explained a bit more in depth. Self-injury is when someone destroys their body tissue in order to harm themselves without the intent of suicidal thoughts. Some individuals do multiple different types of injury while others stick with only one form. The most common types are cutting, burning, biting, or hitting themselves repeatedly to cause bruising. It is a phenomenon that is very widespread but not always acknowledged because it has been found that almost half of all adolescent teenagers have, in the past year, engaged in some form of self-injury at some point with some of them doing it on a regular basis. This is when it is time for someone to seek help from a self injury treatment center.
