Do food causes global warming?

The energy you used to cook the food produces greenhouse gasses unless you use renewable energy. The foods themselves had to be transported, which produces more GHGs unless you grew it all yourself. And some foods produce their own GHGs, rice in particular produces large amounts of methane. If you raise animals to eat, and you feed them stuff you don’t grow yourself; then there are transport emissions plus other variables such as fertilizer use etc involved in producing the feeds. However if you don’t buy additional feeds, the plants which grow to replace those eaten by the animal absorb CO2 hence there is no net increase in GHGs. So basically everything you eat influences climate change unless you are totally self sufficient and practising carbon neutral subsistence farming.
